HOUSE D

Bakoven, Cape Town

Working hand in hand with Metropolis Design on the finishes, interiors and detailing, this holiday home was created as a sanctuary for an overseas based client who travels frequently to Cape Town. It was a highly customised, detailed home with warmth, layering and texture. The client wanted all of the furniture pieces to be locally made, custom designed suppliers such as LIM, Wunders, Indigenus, Herringbone and Woodmongers. The earthy, warm tones created a luxurious contemporary cocoon, overlooking the uninterrupted views of the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic ocean.

House V

Constantia, Cape Town

This home was renovated stage by stage over a series of years, with the client focusing on each space properly and with patience. This is a vibrant family home with two teenage boys, full of love and happiness. Each piece of furniture and the accessories were hand picked with the client, and the result is a warm, comforting  environment, layered with texture, subtle colours, and depth. All the pieces are from local South African designers such as LIM, James Mudge & Studio 19. The accessories add a special layering to the space, and include embroidered scatters from Evolution, hand made paper vessels from LIM amongst other items.

EXETER

Bishopscourt, Cape Town

Working with architects Metropolis Design, this house was originally built in a Georgian style. It was renovated into an open flowing immersive space, connecting it to its surroundings of Table mountain views and leafy green landscapes of Bishopscourt. The mountain metaphor is reflected in the floating cantilevers, overhangs, use of natural stone and timber textures. The inside of the home flows freely, with plenty of natural light and open spaces, where each space is visually connected. The furniture installation was uncluttered and made up of elements that could easily be moved around to fit in with the client’s lifestyle and family life. Spaces can easily be opened up and transformed into free play areas or formal areas depending on the configuration. Bold pops of colour were introduced in certain areas to stand out against the natural neutral tones of the envelope.

THE FARMHOUSE

McGregor, Cape Town

This project brief was to create a farmhouse-style holiday home where the client and his family could escape on weekends, away from the city; a place where they could relax in the tiny hamlet of McGregor, connected to a simpler way of life. Our inspiration for this farmhouse project took us back to the original intention of farmhouses: “a simple refuge, representing a peaceful yet productive lifestyle.” It was important for us to approach the project using honest and humble materials and fittings which are authentic and practical. Farmhouses were homes grounded in purity, honesty and simple values, each house taking on the imprint of people who lived there. This is why we involved the client each step of the way in sourcing of all the materials used, the hand chosen fittings and many reclaimed pieces, each item with a story and history behind them.

HOUSE M

Tokai, Cape Town

This Tokai family home was a dilapidated home in need of a renovation, after having had no maintenance for 40 years. With careful planning, thoughtful detailing and a considered approach, the footprint of the home was retained, but the spaces internally were reconfigured and remastered. This  transformed it into a contemporary family home, filled with natural light, yet retaining its old-world, London Saville Row charm. The space is layered, textured, and sophisticated, yet still maintains an air of comfort and relaxation.

SPA HOUSE

Hout Bay, Cape Town

Working with architects Metropolis Design, the building was created as guest accommodation nestled in the mountainside in Hout Bay. The building was designed as a set of abstract sculptural elements suspended over water as a rejuvenative element. We worked closely with Metropolis Design to provide interiors that were contemporary, yet subtle enough to allow the form of the building to be the main focus.

WATERS EDGE

Big Bay, Cape Town

This investment property was purchased by an overseas client who traveled regularly and needed a touch base in Cape Town. The property is situated in Big Bay, one of the kite-surfing meccas of the world, which the client was passionate about. We completely gutted and open planned the home, and overhauled the spaces with new finishes, and furniture. The feel is fresh, light and airy. We used shades of grey and oak to bring in warmth and texture. The spaces are open, warm and sophisticated, yet still allows one to feel relaxed and enveloped after a day at the beach.

BUNGALOW A

Clifton, Cape Town

Nestled amongst the exclusive rocky boulders and sandy beaches of Clifton, the brief for this holiday bungalow was to create a space with warmth, layering and texture. The style is a luxurious contemporary take on South African safari, for the client who is based overseas and travels expensivley into Africa. Working hand in hand with Metropolis Design on the finishes, interiors and detailing, we created a truly relaxed, contemporary African experience, blending outdoor lifestyle with indoor tranquility and comfort. Many of the custom made pieces were sourced locally from our talented South African furniture designers, including Vogel, James Mudge & Dark Horse.
